We were joined on the Popternative show by Pyper Braun who can be seen playing Alice in the new Blumhouse horror flick, Imaginary, out in theaters today. The film follows Jessica (played by DeWanda Wise) who moves back into her childhood home with her familyher youngest stepdaughter Alice. Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement and starts playing games with Chauncey that become increasingly sinister. Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Veronica Falcon, and Betty Buckley also star.

When asked about the audition process, Pyper explains, “My agents and manager knew I wanted to be in a horror movie for a very long time, so I self-taped and then I got a call back the next week later, which is already a win. And then I got to go to the Blumhouse office which was extra fun and I got to meet Jeff Wadlow, the director, and then I found out a couple of weeks later I got the job.”

Pyper also discusses some fun she had on set with the cast and crew: “I have the mock up version of Chauncey, and the director gave him to me and I thought it would be funny to hide him around set and in my dressing room. My wardrobe guy would come in and take my clothes at night, would hide him so I could find him in the morning, and then I would hide him for him to find, and it got really elevated by the end of it.”

But the real Chauncey was kept safe during filming: “Chauncey specifically, he had a handler and he was kept in a box which was his napping area,” Pyper says.
