The newest installment of the Insidious franchise was a special one. Not only did the Lambert family from the first two films return for Insidious: The Red Door, but Patrick Wilson who stars in the film reprising his role as patriarch Josh Lambert made his directorial debut. Ty Simpkins reprises his role as Dalton Lambert in Insidious: The Red Door, now in college and travels deeper into the sinister realm of The Further to explore the dark spirits that haunt his family. Ty told Popternative’s Petey Beats how challenging it was to play a character now that he first played in 2010:
“Oh it’s a completely different character, you know like young Dalton doesn’t talk a lot because he’s in a coma, and you know when he does, when he is awake, he’s crying or screaming or acting creepy whatever it is, so to have the depth and the layers of Dalton now it was fun challenge to tackle. And having Patrick there along the way, who I’ve known him since I was three years old, that was a really nice thing to have. It was a great full circle moment for me. So, I’m just really happy that this is the movie that gets to do that.”
Sinclair Daniel joined the Insidious franchise as Chris, Dalton’s first friend he met in college. Sinclair’s character served as a comedic relief in Insidious: The Red Door and shared with Popternative how she found it easier than people might think:
“I would say that it’s actually a little less challenging than people would think given the backdrop of the movie and the tone and everything, but you know in life there is the dark and the light as we talk about a lot in the movie so there’s heavy moments and then there’s light moments, and I was really excited to get to explore those in this fifth installment.”
