Netflix announced that the upcoming drama, Train Dreams, based on Denis Johnson’s 2011 novella, will arrive on the platform on November 21. It will first premiere in in select theaters in November (date TBA). Train Dreams is directed by Clint Bentley, with a screenplay by Bentley and Academy Greg Kwedar, the writing team behind Sing Sing.

Narrated by Will Patton (Outer Range, Remember the Titans), Train Dreams stars Joel Edgerton (Dark Matter, Boy Erased), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist, The Theory of Everything), Nathaniel Arcand (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Heartland), Clifton Collins Jr. (Eddington, Capote), John Diehl (Dark Winds, Snowfall), Paul Schneider (Florida Man, Lars and the Real Girl), with Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin, Better Call Saul), and William H. Macy (The Dropout, Shameless).

Per Tudum, the synopsis reads, “Train Dreams is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), whose life unfolds during an era of unprecedented change in early 20th-century America. Orphaned at a young age, Robert grows into adulthood among the towering forests of the Pacific Northwest, where he helps expand the nation’s railroad empire alongside men as unforgettable as the landscapes they inhabit. After a tender courtship, he marries Gladys (Jones) and they build a home together, though his work often takes him far from her and their young daughter. When his life takes an unexpected turn, Robert finds beauty, brutality, and newfound meaning for the forests and trees he has felled.”
