Neon today revealed the official trailer (below) for Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s latest film, Origin, premiering in theaters January 19th, 2024. DuVernay produces alongside Paul Garnes (Selma, Middle of Nowhere) with music composed by Kris Bowers (Bridgerton, Green Book).
Starring Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Justified: City Primeval, King Richard) and Jon Bernthal (American Gigolo, The Punisher), the synopsis reads: “While investigating the global phenomenon of caste and its dark influence on society, a journalist faces unfathomable loss and uncovers the beauty of love and human resilience. Inspired by the New York Times best-seller “Caste” and starring Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Origin explores the mystery of history, the wonders of romance and a fight for our future.”
The cast also includes Niecy Nash-Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Reno 911!), Emily Yancy (Sharp Objects, Nine Months), Finn Wittrock (Luckiest Girl Alive, Ratched), Victoria Pedretti (You, The Haunting of Hill House), Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting, Mrs. Fletcher), Isha Carlos Blaaker (Fear the Walking Dead, The Flight Attendant), Vera Farmiga (Hawkeye, Bates Motel), Audra Mcdonald (The Gilded Age, The Good Fight), Connie Nielsen (Nobody, Gladiator), Blair Underwood (American Crime Story, Quantico), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Parks and Recreation), Stephanie March (Naomi, Law & Order: SVU), and Myles Frost (All In, Family Reunion).
