We were joined on the Popternative show by Avantika (Senior Year) and Bebe Wood (Love, Victor) who star in the new Mean Girls film playing now in theaters. Described as a “new twist on the modern classic,” and based on the stage musical Mean Girls, it also stars Angourie Rice (Honor Society), Reneé Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Jaquel Spivey in his first feature movie role, Jenna Fischer (The Office), Busy Philipps (Cougar Town), Ashley Park (Joy Ride), Tina Fey (30 Rock), and Tim Meadows (The Goldbergs).

The synopsis remains the same as the original movie from 2004 which follows Cady Heron, played by Angourie Rice, who is welcomed into the elite group of popular girls called at school, “The Plastics,” ruled by queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen Wieners (Bebe Wood) and Karen Shetty (Avantika). When Cady crushes on Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself on Regina’s bad side. Cady then plans to take down the group with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey).
