We were joined on the Popternative show by actor Tobie Donovan who plays Isaac Henderson in the hit Netflix series Heartstopper, which was recently picked up for 2 more seasons. An adaption of the bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper follows Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) who meet at secondary school and quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.

In our interview, Tobie discusses what makes his character so relatable, the global popularity of Heartstopper and his popular vlog which consists of behind-the-scenes footage of filming Heartstopper.

“I think people who are introverted relate to Isaac a lot. I think often times in film and TV the principle cast are really bubbly and it’s all these massive personalities […] but then actually having someone in his shell still and minding his own business and then occasionally giving a snarky look or a cheeky comment, you know people see themselves in that,” Tobie tells us why he thinks Isaac is a character that so many people can identify with.
