The globally popular Swedish teen drama series Young Royals is finally back for a second season which premiered on November 1st on Netflix. The series, which premiered in July 2021, follows Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) at a Swedish boarding school where he is able to truly self-explore away from his royal duties and meets Simon (Omar Rudberg). Prince Wilhelm’s second cousin August (played by Malte Gårdinger) attends the same school, and season 1 saw August betray Wilhelm leading to damaging consequences for both Wilhelm and Simon.

Malte Gårdinger returned to the Popternative show to discuss Young Royals season 2 and August’s big character development.

In our interview, Malte tells us what it was like preparing to play August again for season 2 – both emotionally and physically. He discusses the complexity of his character; he is an easy character to hate, but at the same time, we feel bad for him and this is developed further this season. Malte also explains what it was like preparing for his many scenes this season with Frida Argento who plays Sara.
