We were joined on the Popternative show by Navia Robinson who stars as superheroine Carrie Kelley in the new CW series Gotham Knights which premiered on March 14. Based on DC comic characters, the series follows the rebellious adopted son (Oscar Morgan) of Bruce Wayne/Batman who teams up with the Dark Knight’s most notorious villains to clear their names after they are suspected of killing the Caped Crusader. Additionally, Navia can be seen playing Nia Baxter-Carter in the Disney Channel series Raven’s Home, a sequel to the early 2000’s series That’s So Raven starring Raven-Symoné.

In our interview, Navia talks about her audition process for Gotham Knights and what she knew about the series:

“The characters’ names were obscured. My character was called Jenny, and I want to say maybe the character description said Batman’s sidekick but I do remember it said ‘plucky as hell’ that was how the character was described. It was just a 2 page audition so the ewnst much to gleam from it other than this characte wa ssuppoed to be optimistic and lively and that she was a hero’s sidekick. So I thought that the character was Batgirl, that’s what I deduced.”

Gotham Knights airs on The CW on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET with the season finale set for June 27.
