We were joined on the Popternative show by Allisyn Snyder who reunites with fellow Disney Channel stars in her feature directorial debut, Howdy, Neighbor! The film recently had its premiere at the 23rd edition of the Screamfest Horror Film Festival, running from October 10-19. The found footage horror film finds the famous family sitcom, Howdy, Neighbor! back to haunt Benjamin, a queer actor living in Los Angeles who still gets recognized for his starring role as Bucky the farm boy. His world is turned upside down when his new neighbor, Chase, reveals himself as a huge fan. As the lines between friend and fan are blurred, Ben begins investigating why Chase looks so oddly familiar.
Howdy, Neighbor!‘s cast includes Matthew Scott Montgomery (Unidentified with Demi Lovato, So Random!), Grant Jordan (Miss Stevens), Sterling Sulieman (Still Star-Crossed, Pretty Little Liars), Debby Ryan (Insatiable, Jessie), Alyson Stoner (Phineas and Ferb, Camp Rock), Kimmy Shields (Insatiable, Big Little Lies), Damien C. Haas (So Random!, Clarence), Shayne Topp (So Random!, The Goldbergs), Greer Grammer (Awkward, The Middle), Tim Bagley (Somebody Somewhere, Grace and Frankie), Adam Faison (Hellraiser, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), and Kevin Chamberlin (Jessie, Grace and Frankie).
In our interview, Allisyn discusses the dark side of fandom and how she was able relate to the Howdy, Neighbor! plot:
“Unfortunately, way more than kind of relatable. We’ve all had pretty awful stalker experiences. I remember meeting up with Alyson Stoner to film their scene and talking about insistences where they would teach dance classes, which is really difficut for someone who has stalkers because you’re public about where you are every week. It’s a very tricky thing and I think working on this film highlighted something I always found really funny: you’re told to engage with fans and be really friendly but don’t engage crazy, don’t engage stalkers. But my fans are telling me they want to marry me, so where is the line?”
