Netflix’s One Piece Season 2: Everything You Need To Know About The Second Live-Action Adventure

The Straw Hat Pirates are about to set sail in the live-action One Piece series very soon thanks to Netflix. With the official first look at One Piece Season 2 releasing earlier this weekend, many are excited to see what’s in store for Luffy’s new band of misfits. The teaser trailer gave us much to ponder, including what challengers will await Luffy’s crew.

According to its synopsis, One Piece Season 2 will see the Straw Hat Pirates finally embarking on their journey to the Grand Line. However, on their way to get to the sea of wonders, they’ll travel to new locales and confront many new dangers. These threats were featured in the trailer, which includes characters like Smoker (Callum Kerr), Brogy (Brendan Sean Murray), Miss Wednesday (Charithra Chandran), and Miss All Sunday (Lera Abova).

However, there are also characters that were previously featured, some of who will also become iconic members of the Straw Hats. This includes the introduction of Chopper (voiced by Mikaela Hoover), Dr. Kureha (Katey Sagal) and Dr. Hiruluk (Mark Harelik).

Both in the original manga and the anime, Chopper was a reindeer who accidentally ate a Devil Fruit that transformed him into a human-hybrid creature. Formerly the assistant to Dr. Hiruluk and his research, Chopper saved Luffy, Nami, and Sanji from an attack from evil conglomerate boss Wapol. After this mission, Chopper would become a member of the Straw Hat Pirates and have some iconic moments of his own.

Chopper’s arc in One Piece is part of a larger narrative known as the “Drum Island” arc. This arc saw Luffy trying to find a doctor to heal Nami due to an unknown illness, which leads them to Kureha and Hiruluk’s doorsteps. In fact, this story arc is one of many that also inspired the overarching story for the second season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation.

The other arcs that will also be included in One Piece Season 2 include “Loguetown”, “Reverse Mountain”, “Whiskey Peak”, and “Little Garden”. Each arc this season will focus on the team itself unlike how Season 1 was more focused on the individual developments of each Straw Hat member.

Season 2 will open up with the “Loguetown” arc, which sees many pirates wanting to get revenge on Luffy from Season 1. These episodes will see the return of Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward), who was tricked by Luffy and defeated in Orange Town. However, he has since made an alliance with the pirate Alvida to enact his revenge.

This arc will also introduce Smoker, who witnessed Gold Roger’s death, which fueled his interest in the One Piece. He was also teased at the end of Season 1 with a wanted poster with Luffy, seeking the high reward that Smoker might gain in Season 2.

The “Reverse Mountain” arc will see the introduction of the secretive Baroque Works organization, led by Mr. 0 (Joe Manganiello). This organization is a syndicate hellbent on destabilizing kingdoms, like the desert-based Arabasta kingdom. Its agents, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9, plan to use the massive whale known as the Laboon to feed the Mountain’s people. However, Luffy and his crew team up with Laboon’s keeper, a man called Crocus, to stop these agents. Miss Wednesday will be introduced in these episodes.

Meanwhile, “Whiskey Peak” will see the Straw Hats in a new haven-town where they’re celebrated, similarly to Arlong Park. However, with the Baroque Works agents now out and about, the Straw Hats are faced with more problems. This also introduces new rivalries with several different crews, like the Arabasta kingdom, the Seven Warlords, and much more. Specifically, it’s here that Miss Wednesday is actually the princess of Arabasta, Vivi.

“Little Garden” will introduce two gigantic characters, Dorry and Brogy, who was previously seen in the Season 2 teaser. Here, the Straw Hats have to stop Dorry and Brogy from fighting one another as they’ve been doing it for years. Furthermore, Vivi will become a permanent member of the Straw Hats following the “Whiskey Peak” arc.

Given how One Piece Season 2 will handle its story, it’s likely that some elements from these arcs will be refitted and rewritten. However, fans can still expect the important points from each arc to play out as originally presented. Furthermore, with Season 3 on the horizon for Netflix’s live-action adaptation, it’s likely that the next five arcs will follow suit.

One Piece Season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2026.
