Neon today announced that they have acquired Ava DuVernay’s Origin ahead of its world premiere tomorrow at the Venice Film Festival. The film will also have a gala screening at the Toronto International Film Festival and stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Justified: City Primeval, King Richard), Jon Bernthal (The Bear, American Gigolo), Niecy Nash-Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Claws), Vera Farmiga (Hawkeye, Bates Motel), Audra McDonald (The Good Fight, Private Practice), Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, The Founder), Blair Underwood (American Crime Story, Quantico), Finn Wittrock (Luckiest Girl Alive, Ratched), Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting, Hamilton), and Connie Nielsen (Close to Me, Wonder Woman).

Neon will release the film in theaters nationwide later this year.

DuVernay wrote, produced and directed Origin, which is inspired by Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. Neon adds, “while grappling with tremendous personal tragedy, Isabel sets herself on a path of global investigation and discovery. Despite the colossal scope of her project, she finds beauty and bravery while crafting one of the defining American books of our time.”
