We were joined on the Popternative show by French actor William Nadylam who returns as Yusuf Kama in Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which premiered in theaters on April 15th. His character was first introduced to us on-screen in the second Fantastic Beasts installment, The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018.
William shares with us his excitement for the release of The Secrets of Dumbledore and what it was like filming it during the covid-19 pandemic. “The thing that kept us going was the fact that we knew the fans were going to be there at the end of the tunnel, and I couldn’t wait,” he tells us.
Though we were introduced to Yusuf Kama in 2018, audiences will be able to follow along in this third installment regardless if one watched the last two films or not. “This film could be seen as a stand-alone. Of course it is preferable to see what happened before [in the first two films], but at the same time, not necessarily. This is a story that actually holds itself. I would call it a ‘wizarding heist,'” William explains.
“It [The Secrets of Dumbledore] allows you to have the pleasure of going back to the basics of Hogwarts; so if you have been like me, a fan of the Harry Potter series, then you will find the basics that you like, the places you love, the places that put butterflies in your heart,” William goes on to explain. We then dive into the specifics of playing Yusuf Kama, a French-African pure-blood wizard filled with mystery and uncertainty. “And that’s something you have to make peace with; you will not figure him out,” he states.
