We were joined on the Popternative show by Scoot McNairy who stars as Mr. Primm in the musical comedy film Lyle, Lyle Crocodile which premiered exclusively in theaters on October 7th. The film is now available on digital, and will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on December 13th.
Based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is now a live-action/CGI musical comedy which stars Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), musician Shawn Mendes as the voice of Lyle, Winslow Fegley (8-Bit Christmas), Scoot McNairy (Narcos: Mexico), and Brett Gelman (Stranger Things). It features original songs performed by Shawn Mendes, Javier Bardem, and Constance Wu, written by the songwriting team behind The Greatest Showman, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile Synopsis
When the Primm family (Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle – a singing crocodile (Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primms must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
In our interview, Scoot talks about working on this family-friendly film and how he was excited for the opportunity as he doesn’t usually get to work in the genres of family and comedy. He also tells us about the mindset going into this film knowing it is a well-known children’s book read by many around the world.
