We were joined on the Popternative show by Leo Ashton who portrays a young Aemond Targaryan in HBO‘s Game of Thrones prequel of House of the Dragon. We were introduced to young Aemond in episodes 6 and 7, with episode 7 having a strong focus on Aemond. While the families are gathered for Lady Laena’s funeral, Aemond decides to claim Laena’s dragon for himself leading to an epic scene of him riding Vhagar (photo below).

But things don’t end there. This angers Lady Laena’s daughters and Aemond is confronted by them and Rhaenyra’s two sons. A violent fight follows leading to Aemond having his eye stabbed and eventually losing the eye.

In our interview, Leo tells us about filming both of these scenes and what went into preparing for them as well as the audition process for Aemond’s role. “Going into the fight scene, there was 5 of us, we were already really good friends […] each day we do a different bit and everyone was so exhausted after each day, even the first day when we didn’t even do any fighting,” Leo tells us.
