Netflix yesterday debuted first look photos from Zack Snyder’s (300, Man of Steel, Army of the Dead) epic sci-fi fantasy film Rebel Moon. Directed by Snyder and written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire), and Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead), the film will be released on the streaming platform December 22, 2023. Inspired by the classic 1954 Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai, Rebel Moon will be split in 2 parts according to Tudum.
Rebel Moon Synopsis
When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.
The ensemble cast includes Sofia Boutella (Climax, The Mummy), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Blood Diamond, Ed Skrein (Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, Deadpool), Michiel Huisman (The Flight Attendant, Game of Thrones), Doona Bae (Stranger, Sense8), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, True Detective), Charlie Hunnam (The Gentlemen, Sons of Anarchy), and Anthony Hopkins (The Father, The Two Popes) as the voice of ‘Jimmy’.
