At CCXP25 Brazil today, Hulu revealed first look images from the upcoming series The Testaments, the sequel spinoff series to The Handmaid’s Tale. The new series is set to debut on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally in April 2026.
The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood‘s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, which was published in 2019 and takes place in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead.

Years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is a coming-of-age story that finds a new generation of young women in Gilead grappling with the bleak future that awaits them. For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, having no tangible memories of the outside world prior to their indoctrination into this life. Facing the prospect of being married off and living a life of servitude, they will be forced to search for allies, both new and old, to help in their fight for freedom and the life they deserve.

Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia from The Handmaid’s Tale. The Testaments cast also includes Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another, Presumed Innocent) as Agnes, Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean, California Schemin) as Daisy, Mabel Li (New Gold Mountain, Safe Home), Amy Seimetz (Sweet Tooth, The Girlfriend Experience), Brad Alexander (You, Lynley) as Garth, Rowan Blanchard (Snowpiercer, Girl Meets World) as Shunammite, Mattea Conforti (Power, The Many Saints of Newark) as Becka, Ellen Olivia (Locke & Key) as Penny Judd, Zarrin Darnell-Martin (Mistletoe Murders, Ginny & Georgia), Eva Foote (Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy) as Aunt Estee, Isolde Ardies (Wayward) as Hulda, Shechinah Mpumlwana (13: The Musical), Birva Pandya (The Institute), and Kira Guloien (Women Talking).

The Testaments was created for television by showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller (The Handmaid’s Tale, The 100) and executive produced by Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, Mad Men), Steve Stark (The Handmaid’s Tale, Wednesday), Shana Stein (Monk, Power), Maya Goldsmith (The Recruit, How to Get Away with Murder), John Weber (Doc, The Handmaid’s Tale), Sheila Hockin (The Handmaid’s Tale, Vikings), Daniel Wilson (The Handmaid’s Tale), Fran Sears (The Handmaid’s Tale, Loving), and Mike Barker (Malice, The Handmaid’s Tale), who will also direct the first three episodes.
