Everything You Need To Know Before Watching From Season 3
From season 3 is coming to MGM+ on September 22nd, 2024. Considering that it has been a while since the first two seasons aired, you may need a refresher.
Here is everything you need to know before watching From season 3.
In this sci-fi horror series, many people, from all walks of life and locations, end up stuck in a small town. There is no way to escape, no matter how hard they try. They always send up right back in town. But that is not the scariest part of this situation for them. At night, creatures that disguise themselves as humans, come out.
If there is a special talisman hanging up in a home, these creatures cannot enter. But if the talisman falls, or if someone opens the door or window to let them in, they go inside and are likely to murder anyone they encounter. As the series goes on, it becomes clear that these creatures also enjoy playing with their victims, often torturing them by taking the form of lost loved ones or deepest regrets.
From’s main characters include Sheriff Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and Deputy Sheriff Kenny Liu (Ricky He). Boyd has a son named Ellis (Corteon Moore) who has a girlfriend named Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori). Other notable characters include an lady named Donna (Elizabeth Saunders), who leads the people living in the Colony House, the town’s doctor Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot), and a man named Victor (Scott McCord), who has lived in the town since childhood. Victor is strange, but that is because he grew up in this terrible place, forced to watch not only his people, but newcomers, die at the hands of these creatures.
The series starts with Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey), their daughter Julie (Hannah Cheramy), and son Ethan (Simon Webster) arriving in town while on a road trip. A tree in the road forces them to take a detour. As it turns out, everyone who is stuck in this town encountered a tree in the road as well.
In season one, a villager named Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) started to see hallucinations and hear voices. They tell her that if she wants to save herself, and the people living in this town, she needs to kill Ethan. She attempts to do so, and fails, killing her own brother in the process. The people living there quickly turn against her, rightfully so, and force her out.
Father Khatri (Shaun Majumder), the town’s local pastor, captures Sara, hoping to get some answers out of her. However, before he can get anything from her, the Colony House is attacked by the nocturnal creatures, and Khatri is killed in the struggle. Boyd picks up where Father Khatri left off, taking Sara into the woods in an effort to find a way to escape. While the two are in the forest, they discover bottles dated 1864 and realize that this town has been trapping people for far longer than they ever suspected.
While in the woods, Boyd hallucinates and sees his deceased wife before getting bitten by a giant spider. Sara sees a lighthouse where a young boy in white leads her to a door in a tree. Sara pushes Boyd through, trapping him in an unknown location.
Meanwhile, back in town, Jim is contacted by a voice that tells him to stop his wife from digging in the basement or everyone will regret it. Tabitha has discovered the creatures’ underground lair where they spend their evenings through her digging. She finds Victor there, and the season ends with a bus full of passengers arriving.
Another important highlight from From season 1 is the reason why Boyd and Ellis have a strained relationship – Boyd killed his wife, Abby, Ellis’ mother, while she was suffering from hallucinations that put Ellis in danger.
Season 2 explores the monsters much more in-depth and is where we first start to see them truly messing with the people of the town rather than just killing them. The first couple of episodes are very chaotic, as Jim tries to save his wife, but the house collapses on him (and others). At the same time, the bus passengers are scared and confused, not understanding what is going on in this town. They do not realize they are stuck and do not believe the townsfolk when they explain about the creatures. This causes the majority of them to be killed on the first night.
One of the passengers turns out to be Kristi’s fiancé, Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), which puts a stop to the budding romance she has with Kenny. Another notable newcomer is Randall (A.J. Simmons), who constantly wants to do things his way and does not trust anyone. He ends up living alone in the bus.
In From season 2, Boyd once again journeys into the unknown. He ends up trapped in a bunker where he meets a strange, dying man, whose body is infested by worms. Boyd also discovers a music box there, and the man explains that bad things happen when the music plays. The man infests Boyd with the worms as well by transferring some of his blood to him. This becomes a crucial piece of information because when Ellis is injured later in the season, Boyd is too scared to give him some of his blood to save him, for fear of infecting him. Instead, he transfers his blood to one of the creatures to rid himself of the worms, and then saves his son.
As if things are not bad enough, people start to die in their sleep, seemingly attacked by creatures in their nightmares – think Freddy Krueger. Towards the end of the season, Julie, Randall, and Marielle end up in coma-like states where they experience horrible tortures. Tabitha and Jade attempt to find answers about the children and symbols that are appearing in their dreams by searching the forest while Boyd tries everything in his power to stop the music box’s song.
When he finally destroys the music box, Julie, Randall, and Marielle are released from their nightmares. Jade encounters the symbol she has been seeing in the tunnels where the creatures live. She also sees visions of children lying on rocks and saying “anghkooey,” which connects to Tabitha’s visions of the children that led her to the lighthouse. In a shocking twist, the final moments of the season show Tabitha being pushed out of the lighthouse and awakening in a hospital outside the town – back in the world. This means there must be some sort of an escape route that the others can follow.
From season 3 will likely explore life for Tabitha outside of the strange town. Will she try to find her way back and help everyone escape? Is that even possible? And what does this mean for everyone left trapped there with the creatures?
Season 3 premieres on September 22nd, hopefully with some answers.
