The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning, and history was made. Ryan Coogler’s music-centered vampire horror film Sinners led the field with a staggering 16 nominations—more than any film at the 2026 Oscars and the most nominations ever earned by a single movie in Academy Awards history. Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another followed closely behind with 13 nods. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, and Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value each received a total of 9 nominations, followed by Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet getting 8 nominations.
Conan O’Brien will return to host the ceremony for the second consecutive year, airing live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and Hulu. Alongside the expected contenders, this year’s nominations delivered plenty of surprises and a handful of notable snubs that have left audiences and awards watchers reeling.
