From Season 3 Review (Spoiler-Free)
This review is based on the first half of the third season
If you have not yet watched the MGM+ series From, you are missing out – especially if you enjoy thrillers. While it does have horror elements, I would say it falls more into the thriller category because of the high levels of suspense and mystery. Season 3 raises the bar once more, proving that this is one of the best series on television. It should be noted that this review is based solely on the first five episodes of season 3.
Synopsis: From unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down. In the wake of Season Two’s epic cliffhanger, escape will become a tantalizing and very real possibility as the true nature of the town comes into focus, and the townspeople go on offense against the myriad horrors surrounding them.
From has consistently gotten better and better the longer it goes on. Right from the opening sequences, viewers will be hooked, realizing that they will never know what to expect. The creatures that are featured in this series are terrifying for many reasons. They are smart, manipulative, and they enjoy playing with the residents of this town. They certainly kill, but they do not have to. Instead, they enjoy themselves, which makes everything about this show more suspenseful than you might expect.
One of the best things about From season 3 is that it does not take long to address the cliffhanger at all. In fact, fans who have been waiting to see what has happened to Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) will get instant gratification. That said, things are not as easy for her as one might expect. She may have escaped the town, but that comes with its own challenges. In an effort to remain spoiler-free, I will not go into detail, however where we find her at the end of From season 3 episode 5 is the perfect combination of shocking and exciting.
This show knows exactly what it is doing in terms of expanding the plot. Every time we think the residents get a leg up on these creatures, on this town, they are brought right back down to reality – HARD. There is always drama within the residents themselves as well. The writers are brilliant, giving viewers just enough answers to feel satisfied, but not afraid to throw more questions at them immediately after.

The ensemble cast is always growing because of the nature of this mysterious town. It draws more and more people in, often as a way to create friction between residents. In terms of the series, this keeps things interesting for viewers. Nothing ever feels repetitive, as there is always a surprise lurking around the corner – sometimes quite literally.
From is the perfect combination of drama, mystery, and thriller – with just a dash of horror. Because trust me, when you see what those creatures really look like, it is absolutely terrifying. Season 3 brings in new characters that you will love, and some you might love to hate. There are unexpected twists and turns – some of which are good, and some not so good. That’s the thing about this show, it will always keep you on your toes. Just like the residents of this town, the moment you think you have it figured out, you don’t. And that is what keeps things exciting and fun to watch.
While this review is based on the first half of the season, I cannot imagine From season 3 losing steam. In fact, I would bet money on it moving at a fast pace and delivering on more answers (as well as questions). I would be shocked if this season fell apart.
