Netflix today revealed a first look teaser from the upcoming limited seires East of Eden, a new adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel. The series comes from Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks, The Big Sick), the granddaughter of acclaimed filmmaker Elia Kazan who adapted the novel for film in the 1955 feature starring James Dean and Julie Harris. Starring Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer, Little Women) as Cathy Ames, the new series will debut in Fall 2026.
East of Eden will also star Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night), Mike Faist (Challengers, West Side Story), Hoon Lee (Warrior, Banshee), Tracy Letts (A House of Dynamite, Lady Bird), Martha Plimpton (Task, Raising Hope), Ciarán Hinds (Belfast, Game of Thrones), Joseph Zada (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, We Were Liars), and Joe Anders (Lee, 1917).
Per Netflix, “In Zoe Kazan’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s masterpiece, Pugh plays the indelible antihero Cathy Ames, whose life is intertwined with the lives of generations of men from the Trask family — notably those of Adam (Christopher Abbott) and Charles (Mike Faist) — as the characters live out the darker side of the California dream. The choice between good and evil is at the heart of this fresh interpretation of Steinbeck’s 1952 novel.”
The first 4 episodes are directed by Garth Davis (Foe, Lion) and the remaining episodes by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (The Mustang, Lady Chatterley’s Lover).
