K Factor Films and Branded Pictures Entertainment have partnered with Roco Films to release the heartwarming documentary, Homeschooled, debuting on major streaming platforms on June 1.
Directed by Niki Koss, Homeschooled follows a group of six high schoolers in the same small town with one thing in common; their “typical” high school experience is anything but. All are homeschooled for a different reason. One was so severely bullied in school they had no choice but to pull out, one family wanted to protect their child’s delicate mental health, and others cite reasons like autism, learning disabilities and social anxiety.

The film follows the high schoolers as they prepare for prom and navigate the intriguing world of homeschooling while shedding light on a variety of important topics such as homelessness, autism, bullying, and mental illness, among others.

I became intrigued with homeschooling when it became prevalent during Covid,” says director Niki Koss. “Often viewed in black and white terms and with judgment, I became driven to understand the intricacies of this world and how families were able to creatively implement so many quintessential coming of age moments in their kids’ lives that we take for granted. Getting to know these kids and appreciating the challenges they overcome was profound and worth sharing with the world.”

“The number of homeschoolers in the United States has significantly increased in recent years and yet there’s very little content about or for that community,” says Branded Picture’s Thomas Pettinelli.“This film shows just how different but similar the experiences of these families can be. It’s a reminder that we all share a common thread of humanity.”
Homeschooled won best documentary at Children’s Film Festival Seattle via the Northwest Film Forum, George Lindsey UNA Film Festival and Greenjack International Film Festival. Niki Koss, Samantha Baugnon, Bekki Elaine and Ryan Delaney produce the film while Sam Skolnik and Cheryl Bauder serve as associate producers. J. Todd Harris, Thomas Pettinelli, Jordan Levinson, Andrea Ogden, Beverly Spahn and Kristi and Jay Paasch are executive producers on the project.
Homeschooled will be available to rent on Apple, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube Movies & TV, and Vimeo On Demand on June 1.
