It’s not an everyday occurrence seeing a Picasso working in their element. Decades have passed since Pablo Picasso’s heyday. That’s why we’re talking about his great-grandson Florian Picasso. After discovering his passion for music, Florian decided to pursue a career in a different type of art form than his legendary great-grandfather did. With a last name such as “Picasso”, there is a lot of added pressure, but he does not use it as a crutch. He is quickly rising as one of the best DJs in electronic dance music.
Backstory
Florian was born in Vietnam in 1990 and was adopted by Marina Ruiz-Picasso, Pablo’s granddaughter. He’s worked with the likes of Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero, and has also performed at Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland. The weight that comes with having a name like Picasso is not something he takes lightly, but he doesn’t want to rely on it as he is trying to establish his own legacy. Despite being adopted, Florian has also begun embracing his Vietnamese roots. He has performed several live sets in Vietnam and has donated money to the orphanage he was originally from.

Live From Pablo’s Atelier

Even though he is trying to create his own identity separate from Pablo Picasso, it’s impossible to ignore the influences of art growing up in the Picasso household. That’s why his ability to combine high art and electronic dance music makes him more unique compared to the typical house DJ.
His most recent concert was a live art show featuring Vietnamese artist Cyril Kongo that included a live DJ set from Florian as well. They recreated the vibe and atmosphere of the atelier where Pablo used to work and live, which acted as a beautiful backdrop for the show. It was a wonderful experience to witness as Florian used his music to increase the audience’s heart rate, while Cyril Kongo’s painting stimulated people’s eyes and brain. The masterpieces created by Cyril Kongo are to be auctioned off and the proceeds will go towards the Global Gift Foundation and the Quang Chu Foundation. Both of these organizations focus on helping children, families and orphans in need, all causes that are important to Florian because he was an orphan himself.

You can re-watch the entire show here! If you have an appetite for art and EDM, be sure to familiarize yourself with the name Florian Picasso, because there is certainly more to come.
