We were joined on the Popernative show by Hadas Yaron (Felix and Meira, Shtisel) who can be seen playing Mila in the new Hulu limited series, We Were the Lucky Ones, which premiered on March 28th.
Based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same title, the TV adaptation is inspired by the incredible true story of a Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive and reunite. The series tells a harrowing story about the twentieth century’s darkest moment and how the human spirit can still endure.
The series also stars Joey King (Bullet Train, The Act), Logan Lerman (Hunters, The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Henry-Lloyd Hughes (Archie, Ragdoll), Amit Rahav (Matchmaking, Unorthodox), Sam Woolf (The Witcher), Michael Aloni (Shtisel, Out in the Dark), Moran Rosenblatt (Hit & Run, Fauda), Eva Feiler (Othello, Valorant), Lior Ashkenazi (Traitor, Footnote), and Robin Weigert (Big Little Lies, Deadwood).
“My character Mila, the way I read it in the script [wasn’t how I imagined her] when I read the book. But the writer of the book was also part of [the series writing process]. So within really a scene of a dialogue of like 3 sentences, you already got the gist of the character. She’s got this more of a bitter, annoyed side to her. She’s a bit more uptight, which you didn’t feel in the book,” Hadas says on using both the book and series script as source materials.
