The fourth and final season of the time travel drama The Way Home is upon us with the first episode having premiered on Sunday, April 19 on the Hallmark Channel. The multigenerational drama follows three fierce women, Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh), her teenage daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow), and Kat’s mother, Del (Andie MacDowell). Decades earlier, a series of devastating events drove Kat away from her small Canadian hometown, leaving a rift between her and Del that never fully healed. At a turning point in her life, Kat returns to the family farm with Alice, hoping for a fresh start.

Everything changes when Kat and Alice unexpectedly discover they can travel between the past and present. As they begin to uncover long-buried secrets tied to their family’s history, they become determined to understand, and possibly alter, the tragedies that shaped their lives. Along the way, Kat’s longtime friend Elliot (Evan Williams) plays a key role across both timelines, helping to guide them as they navigate the emotional and unexpected consequences of their journey.

Now, in Season 4, Alice is graduating high school, while Kat and Elliot plan for their future and Del grapples with the fact that she will soon be an empty-nester once again. As more mysteries are brought to the surface, the Port Haven of the past and the Landry family of generations before might just contain the answers the family is seeking.

We were joined on the Popternative show by Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams, and Sadie Laflamme-Snow who reflect on the series as it approaches its conclusion.

“The time travel component to this show is what brings the heart, healing [and] the emotional complexity;[it’s] what draws audiences back to the story and what keeps every scene exciting as an actor,” Laflamme-Snow says on the important role the time travel storyline plays in the series.

Reflecting on Elliot’s character arc, Williams says, “It’s really interesting [with] this show in particular because most shows have, like, a yarn and you just go further. Whereas this show is looping back on itself all the time. And even though it’s been four seasons now, we are relating to things about Elliot’s past that he never knew. And so [he is sort of] in a way more destabilized now than he has ever been. In fact, it’s been a bit of a slide from stable to unstable over the course of the years.”

Looking back at Kat’s growth over four seaons, Leigh shares, “I love her story. I love her evolution. I love watching her journey as someone who’s coming from heartbreak and trauma and grief, having a daughter, having to figure out how to not mess up her daughter. Also, her learning how to love while learning how to love herself and accept herself. I think all across the board, I’m forever grateful for that character because of what I get to take home as Chyler.”
