We were joined on the Popternative show by Taylor Dearden to discuss the new medical drama series, The Pitt, which premiered in January on Max, and has already been renewed for a second season. From John Wells Productions (The West Wing, ER) and Warner Bros. Television, The Pitt is created by R. Scott Gemmill (JAG, ER) and stars ER alum Noah Wyle.
The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. What makes the series unique from other medical dramas is that each episode takes place during a one hour shift of the same day.
The cast also includes Tracey Ifeachor (Dr. Collins), Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), and Shabana Azeez (Javadi), and Jalen Thomas Brooks (Mateo).
Taylor plays Dr. Melissa “Mel” King, a very skilled second year-resident with experience working with military veterans. A bit socially awkward at times, she is great with patients as she presents a calming demeanor.
“I think something The Pitt does is it takes more time for characters and slowing down when it needs to. You always see [shows] where something happens, and the next episode they have moved on,” Taylor says on having the season take place during the same day.

A new episode of The Pitt drops Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on Max leading up to the season finale on April 10.
