HBO has renewed the Steve Carell-led comedy series, Rooster for a second season ahead of its season finale. The series is created by Bill Lawrence (Shrinking, Ted Lasso) who also executive poduces and is co-showrunner along with Matt Tarses (Scrubs, Bad Monkey).

According to HBO, the first four episodes averaged “5.8M U.S. viewers and is pacing as the most watched freshman HBO comedy in over a decade.” New episodes of the 10-episode season air Sundays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT leading up to the season finale on May 10.

Rooster is a comedy series set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter, played by Charly Clive (The Lazarus Project, All My Friends Hate Me). The cast also includes Danielle Deadwyler (40 Acres, Till), Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso, Surface), John C. McGinley (Scrubs, Office Space), and Lauren Tsai (Legion, Moxie).

“We are so grateful to Warner Bros. Television and HBO for being such great partners and to Casey, Amy and Channing for giving us the opportunity to keep making this show with Steve and our amazing cast. It’s been a career highlight for both of us, but more for Matt than me,” says Bill Lawrence.

Rooster is a heartfelt, endearing series, and its second-season renewal is richly deserved. Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses are masters of their craft, bringing their signature heart and humor to life through an incredible cast led by Steve Carell. We’re thrilled to continue this creative journey with HBO and Doozer,” says Clancy Collins White, President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros.

The series is also streaming on HBO Max.
