Popternative is thrilled to welcome Hannah Cheramy to our June 2026 digital cover. For four seasons, she has portrayed Julie Matthews in the MGM+ sci-fi horror series FROM. The series first premiered in 2022 and is set in a mysterious town that traps everyone who enters. FROM continues to expand its lore, with a fifth and final season recently announced. The series has continuously kept audiences hooked with its blend of horror and mystery, as the residents try to escape the town and uncover what is really going on. With each new season, even more questions emerge, such as the identity of the mysterious Man in the Yellow.

Julie is the teenage daughter of Jim and Tabitha Matthews and the older sister of Ethan, and like her family, she is stuck in the town where deadly creatures emerge at night. Julie’s character has had quite an arc throughout the series. In Season 3, it is revealed that she has a supernatural ability known as storywalking, which allows Julie to travel through time and re-experience events, but she cannot alter what has happened.

As Season 4 of FROM builds toward its finale set for June 28, we caught up with Hannah to discuss her experience growing alongside Julie, her love of the show’s psychological horror elements, the emotional depth of her Season 4 performance, and how the role has ultimately shaped her life.

After playing Julie for four seasons now, what has been the most exciting part of bringing this character to life?

Hannah: The most exciting part is growing alongside her as she grows up in this town. There have been so many things that have changed about Julie since the beginning of the show; her maturity, her sense of connection to her family and everyone else in the town. But there are still so many things that have stayed the same, so it’s been really nice playing with all these layers to Julie and discovering details about her backstory and details about her abilities with storywalking. It has allowed me, as an actress who was 17-years-old [then] to now a 22-year-old, to be able to add some of my own life experience and my own truth into Julie, and it’s been really exciting to be able to do that in a long form series.

The series blends multiple genres—horror, drama, and supernatural elements. Which aspect is your favorite to work with?

Hannah: My favorite element of FROM, in a horror sense, is actually not the jump scares or the blood and guts, but the psychological horror side of it. I love to see how these characters are affected so deeply and how it bleeds into their everyday lives, and how each character is going through their own living nightmare. I think that it’s so interesting that you see the way they react with others and how they exist in the town is always different for each character. That’s just so interesting to me, the psychological side of it.

How did you tap into the more emotional parts to Julie in Season 4?

Hannah: Specifically with playing Julie, I get to really dip my toes into both sides [of horror and emotional aspects] because there is the supernatural element with her storywalking, but then I also get to tap into the psychological side of it. I get to play the scared young girl who is just trying to save her dad. At the end of the day, she’s doing this because she loves and needs him, and she needs her family to be together. She feels like she lost him before, after she lost her little brother, Thomas, and she feels like she just got him back. So, now to lose him again, she can’t bear to think of a world where he’s not there. This season, I think that I’ve really been able to play both sides of the horror and the balance that FROM is so great at.

Is there a fun fact or behind-the-scenes detail about filming FROM that fans might not know and that you can share?

Hannah: The massacre scene where Julie storywalks to, in episode four [of Season 4], half of those were real people. They were laying there in the street covered head to toe in [fake] blood and in prosthetics to make it look like they’ve been ripped apart, and then half of those were mannequins. There were people going up and down the street all day just spraying [fake] blood, because it kept drying in the heat of the Halifax summer. It was funny walking down the street, because you would never know sometimes when people were laying very still who was a mannequin and who was a real person, because everything looked so perfect.

How would you describe the atmosphere on set of FROM when you’re not filming scenes?

Hannah: Given the gravity of the show, it is a very fun place to be. People are having a good time on set. I think if you get too negative and you wallow too much in the darkness of it, then it can affect everyone’s mood on set. But the mood on set most days is really good and high, people are always cracking jokes.

What lessons or learning experiences from playing Julie on FROM would you say you’ve gained over the last four seasons?

Hannah: I have learned so much about being an actress since playing Julie. Before booking FROM, I was a child actor and I was doing it because I loved to perform and it was fun. But being on FROM has really solidified that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. This is what I was born to do. I will [always] carry this discovery that I’ve made while playing Julie. The discovery of how important this career is to me, and how it has shaped so much of my life in so many positive ways. I will never forget my experiences playing Julie, because it has taught me so much about myself, who I am, and my dreams and my ambitions.
