Swedish singer-songwriter ILY recently joined Popternative for a video interview where they touched on many different topics. The Stockholm-native talked about signing with Sony Music Canada, the music scene in Sweden, and more. She also credits her love for 80s music and Scandinavian pop as her influences for genre-blending.

ILY takes pride in the fact that her music provides an escape for many individuals. Being an artist from Sweden, to be able to secure a record deal with a major label in Canada as an indie artist is truly impressive. However, it was something she never anticipated, “I had no idea,” ILY says. According to Spotify, ILY currently has over 250, 000 monthly listeners from all over the world. In our interview, she talks about how excited she is to sign with Sony Music Canada and sees it as an opportunity of a lifetime.
ILY’s profile on Sony Music Canada lists Kiesza, Lykke Li, Dragonettes, Icona Pop, Robyn, Chromeo and Janelle Monáe as some of her musical influences and inspirations. It also notes how her debut release was a collab with Swedish house producers Albin Myers and John Dahlback titled “Vibe”. The song was the official anthem for Sweden’s 2015 house festival “Summerburst”. She continues to collab with artists including Gianno Marino, Jack Wins, Initial Talk, and Ellis.
