We chatted with viral alt pop singer-songwriter artist Leah Kate about her debut EP, What Just Happened?, which is out now on all streaming platforms. She recently went viral on TikTok and Spotify with her single “Fuck Up The Friendship.” Check out what she had to say below.
What can you tell us about your debut EP?
LK: I am so proud of these songs, it’s crazy. They are a true reflection of LEAH.
When people listen to your music, what are you hoping they get out of it?
LK: I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling insecure and caring too much about what other people think, and music has been empowering for me. I hope that is reflected in my music and other people can feel the same from it. feel empowered to go out and get what they want, to not be afraid, and be inspired to go after anything.
How would you describe the sound of your music?
LK: My music is a combination of pop, rock and 70’s disco vibes with brutally honest in your face lyrics that you won’t forget.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
LK: Never take no for an answer. Keep going even when you feel discouraged. Keep creating. Keep putting music out. Never give a f*** what anyone thinks!
What is your favorite song to perform live?
LK: “F U Anthem” for sure. The energy in the room just goes off.
Can you describe your creative process when you’re writing new music?
LK: When writing new music I just try to be as authentic and true as possible. All my music comes from the heart and reflects things I’ve experienced in my life.
