We were joined on the Popternative show by Pop/R&B artist Paul Russell to chat about hit single “Lil Boo Thang,” which is his highest performing post with over 10M views on TikTok and 11M views on Instagram. “Lil Boo Thang” follows the success of his previous single, “Ms Poli Sci,” which has gained 8 millions views on TikTok and over 15 million overall streams to date.
Paul originally teased “Lil Boo Thang” on TikTok in June 2023, which garnered over 5.3 million views and helped generate 55,600 creations. He then remade the same post on Instagram receiving 10.4 million views and 355,000 reels. The record has received 20,000 pre-saves to date.
Paul describes his rhythms, hooks, and mix of R&B, funk, pop, and hip-hop as “cookout music you listen to outside with a bunch of friends.” In our interview, Paul talks about his success on TikTok, when he realized that “Lil Boo Thang” was starting to become something very special, and more. He also discusses the global popularity and reach of the single acrosss multiple social media platforms.
