Check out what they had to say!
What do you think about the current state of metal music?
I think that modern metal music has become much more diverse and mainstream to so many people. There was a time where people tried to pigeonhole the different sub genres of metal, which can be very limiting. Now, I feel Heavy Metal is such a broad term, it allows modern metal bands to be more creative and free to express themselves by not being stuck within their projected framework.
What can you tell us about “Wait for Me” off the new album Exile?
“Wait For Me” is based loosely on a poem I found with the same title. It’s essentially about a love letter written in the second world war about a soldier asking for his loved one back at home to ‘wait for him’. While he like so many others were forced to leave their families to fight for their country, in the hope that they would be reunited again soon. Its a very relatable theme and one I think can really resonate with people at the moment who have been made to be apart from their loved ones.
How would you describe the sound of your music?
We are first and foremost a heavy metal band. We have a great balance of modern and traditional metal which is what I believe gives The Raven Age its unique sound.
Who would you say are some of your musical influences?
My main influences come from a more classic rock and classic metal background. I grew up on bands such as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden. Singers such as Steven Tyler and David Coverdale were major influences for me.
Did you always know that music was something you wanted to pursue?
Pretty much! Only thing I’ve ever been interested in and been doing it too long to try and do anything else!
When people listen The Raven Age, what are you hoping they get out of
it?
I just hope it brings whoever listens some enjoyment! That’s all any musician hopes for I think.
