We recently spoke with British singer and songwriter Ella Rosa who just dropped a new single, “The Ick,” featuring Kevin George. Check out what she had to say below!

What can you tell us about your newest single, “The Ick”?

Ella Rosa (ER): This new single is about a sad feeling that I usually get at the beginning of most relationships. I would see my partner doing something that kind of rubbed me the wrong way and it would totally ruin my feelings. I called it The Ick and realized that a lot of other people had similar experiences.

What’s so appealing about a collaboration in your opinion?

ER: I like the way that multiple people can come together and bring their influences in to create something incredible.

When people listen to your music, what are you hoping they get out of it?

ER: I hope people can at the very least they can relate to what I’m writing about.

How would you describe the sound of your music?

ER: I would say this release is very different from the others but usually I go for a jazzy, neo-soul type flow.

Who would you say are some of your musical influences?

ER: Erykah Badu, Joja Smith, Hope Tala.

Did you always know that music was something you wanted to pursue?

ER: Literally since I was a tiny kid I was singing and playing music. It has been with me forever.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

ER: Keep your music sacred and take advice from a handful of people. Keep the circle small and loyal.

What is your favorite song to perform live?

ER: “Nothing Sacred.” I get really into that one.
