We had the chance to chat with LA-based rising singer-songwriter Devin Kennedy about his newest single, “Silence.” Check out what he had to say about his music.

How excited are you to release new music?

DK: So excited. It’s always a great feeling to drop music that you’re super proud of.

What can you tell us about “Silence”?

DK: Silence glues together a few different vibes and influences. It takes the bright, sunny, and catchy feel that you’d usually find in one of my songs, and effortlessly incorporates some lo-fi and R&B influences. I’m super excited for everyone to hear it.

There’s a lot of genre-bending happening in music. What do you think about it?

DK: I’m all about it. These days it feels like there are no rules when making pop music. The only goal is to make something that feels fresh. For me, that’s really made my songwriting/production process a lot more fun over the last few years.

What’s been the best advice someone has given you about music?

DK: Trust your gut. Honestly, I spent so long making music based on what I thought people wanted to hear. Now I just make what I want to hear, and people seem to gravitate towards that.

Your music has streams from all around the world. Talk a little bit about your fans.

DK: I love them. I feel so blessed to have anyone listening to my music at all honestly. The fact that people all over the world listen is actually a dream come true. I only hope to impact more and more listeners as I release more and more music.

When people listen to Devin Kennedy, what are you hoping they get out of it?

DK: I hope it allows them to escape from the real world for a few minutes. For me, music has always been my way to get out of my head and just listen. So if I can provide that escape for anyone, then I’ve done something right.
