We chatted with entertainment and portrait photographer Zusha Goldin about his career and much more.

When did you first fall in love with Photography?

I can’t pinpoint a specific date, but I know it’s been the thing that’s kept me going for years. I first began dabbling in the craft when I was around 7 years old. I got to use this cute Canon point-and-shoot camera my family had. It awakened something in me and cameras and I have been inseparable since.

When did you come to realize that entertainment photography was something you wanted to do?

I kinda fell into it accidentally actually. I was at a Passover Seder on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, where I met a filmmaker who gave me his tickets to Tribeca Film Festival. I attended in a t-shirt and jeans and networked with actors, producers, directors, and industry executives. I handed out my business cards to everyone I met there and ended up with one shoot with a Batwoman actor Camrus Johnson. We’re still friends till this day. He’s an unusually talented and genuinely kind human!

What is the best thing about portrait photography?

The ability to tell unique stories that are exclusive to the individual that I’m shooting. Humans are all the same, yet each one of us had intrinsic and unique value. It’s truly a beautiful thing to see. Portraits of people help me tell their stories, and I’m so in love with creating visual stories!

Do you have a funny/interesting story to share about a recent shoot?

I cannot say too much about this shoot, but it was definitely one of the coolest shoots I’ve ever done. I mean we had an airplane on set… A full-grown airplane! My team and I were setting up my equipment and strobes for headshots, and I didn’t realize how close to the airplane I was standing and accidentally bumped into the blade of it in front of all my clients. It hurt, but it was funny, and it’s a great story to tell.

Who is someone that you would love to set up a shoot with in the future that you have not had the chance to yet?

I currently have Leonardo DiCaprio, Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., Julia Roberts, The Rock, Hugh Jackman, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield… the list goes on and on. There are so many incredible talents who I adore and would love to work with their genius.
