When you go to a gas station or use an ATM machine, you don’t often think about people stealing your credit or debit card information. However, people get scammed at gas stations and ATMs more than you think.
There is now an app that can prevent you from that possible risk: Skimmer Scanner. This app, which is currently only available for Android, detects a Bluetooth module nearby that ATMs or gas pumps are typically used with credit card skimmers. That Bluetooth module is a radio component found in most modern fuel pump skimmers (HC-05).
While the app is only detecting one specific type of skimmer, meaning you’re not 100% safe from being scammed, it still has the potential to serve as a useful tool.
