San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2023 saw Funko and its brands bring 8 booth spaces at the event, debuting a bigger Funkoville experience for fans. The experience offered the opportunity to shop in designated Funko Games, Loungefly and Mondo stores, as well as visit a Bitty Pop! storefront and throwback to the ’90s and ’00s through a Blockbuster-inspired experience in celebration of Funko’s launch of Rewind.
The first full collection of Rewind will be available for fans in Fall 2023. Keeping up with the nostalgia theme, each collectible figure comes in VHS-type packaging and with a membership card designed to mirror Blockbuster’s memorable design. Mondo Senior Art Director Peter Santa-Maria hosted a surprise signing with legendary artist Jim Lee, DC Comics’ President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer (photo below). Lee visited with the Mondo team and signed the brand’s SDCC exclusive and limited-edition X-Men poster based on his original work. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the comic book, the poster ($80) is a full screen image with an edition size of 215.
Funko also celebrated SDCC with their annual, sell-out Fundays event on Friday, July 21, which hosted more than 2,700 attendees, including fans, press and celebrity guests AJ McLean, musician Corey Feldman and Gabriel Iglesias.
On Thursday, July 20, Funko Games elevated their tabletop titles to new heights at the rooftop of the DiamondView Tower during the Funko Games x Den of Geek Rooftop Tabletop event, which hosted more than 200 attendees. Attendees had the opportunity to play some of Funko’s most sought-after games, including the SDCC exclusive Avatar: The Last Airbender Crossroads of Destiny, alongside Scream: The Game, Star Trek: Cryptic and more.
