Netflix today announced that production has started on This Summer Will Be Different, the series adaptation of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s 2024 bestselling romance novel. Previous announced cast are Sophie Nélisse (Heated Rivalry, Yellowjackets), Francesca Reale (Stranger Things, Do Revenge), and Roby Attal (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Sex Lives of College Girls). The 10-episode series will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island.
Additional cast announced are Jordan Rodrigues (The Fosters, Light as a Feather), Jude Wilson (Crew Girl, Fellow Travelers), Natalie Brown (The Strain, Sophie), James Tupper (Big Little Lies, Me and Orson Welles), Tom Barnett (Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man), and Celia Owen (Moonshine, Finding Her Edge).
This Summer Will Be Different comes from creators and showrunners Dane Clark (Mr D, Suze) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms, North of North). Clark, Stewart, and Fortune serve as executive producers alongside Jennifer Kawaja (Sort Of, Wayward) and Elise Cousineau (Cardinal, Small Achievable Goals) for Sphere Media.
The logline reads, “This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.”
Fortune’s debut novel, Every Summer After, was recently adapted into the Prime Video series Every Year After, which premiered in June and has been renewed for a second season.
