We were joined on the Popternative show by Kate Miner (Shameless, Fifty Shades of Black) to discuss her new holiday film, Festival of Trees, now availabe On Demand. In Festival of Trees, Kate leads as Jacquie who’s future as a designer could rest on winning the annual “Festival of Trees” competition. But coming up with the perfect design means she will have to remember what Christmas is really all about.
It also stars Jojo Regina (Where the Crawdads Sing, The Chosen,) Alpha Trivette (Sweet Magnolias, Banshee), and Joseph C Phillips (13 Reasons Why, How to Get Away with Murder). “A lot of the movie, kind of at it’s core, is these two friends that do this thing and figure out how they’re going to win this competition,” Kate says.
“When I read the script, I just loved the charater of Jacquie’s, it just felt easy; it came off the page so easily,” she adds.
Kate also talks about her past roles including her time on the hit series Shameless. Kate was introduced as Tammi in Season 9 and her character subsequently gets romantically involved with Lip, played by Jeremy Allen White. “Working with Jeremy was obviously amazing; he and I were both parents at the time that we were playing parents on the show, so it was a whole of life mirroring our storylines on the show, so that was really fun, and that is one of my favorite characters I ever got to play.”
