Epic Pictures‘ latest action/comedy film Cop Secret, recently premiered on July 8 in select theaters and On Demand on July 12. It is the feature debut from writer-director Hannes Thor Haldorsson who is a former professional soccer player and was the goalkeepr for Iceland’s national team. Cop Secret is an Icelandic action-packed, buddy-cop parody that follows Iceland’s toughest cop (Auðunn Blöndal) who clashes with his new partner (Egill Einarsson) when they team up to solve a series of violent bank heists. We were joined on the Popternative show by Hannes to talk about his feature debut.
In our interview, Hannes discusses writing and directing Cop Secret, and the excitement of the film being watched by people outside of his home country. “We never thought anyone outside of Iceland would ever see it, and we started getting invitations to film festivals and I was so surprised every time we screened it outside of Iceland, but now I’m starting to get a bit more used to it,” he tells us. We also talked about if he’s ever thought about being involved in a future film about the epic run team Iceland had at the 2018 FIFA World Cup where he was the team’s goalkeeper.
