Channing Tatum channeled his dancing roots as Mike Lane three times in the Magic Mike film franchise. Now he’s retiring the character in the final iteration of the trilogy in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which premiered in theaters on February 10.
The previous Magic Mike films followed Mike (Tatum), a male exotic dancer with bigger ambitions to start a custom furniture business, but of course the main thing that got ladies, and gentlemen, to the theaters was to watch attractive men perform steamy dance routines. In Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Mike meets a wealthy socialite named Maxandra Mendoza (Salma Hayek) who offers him an opportunity to get back on stage in a major way that he hasn’t done before as the pair head to London.
Magic Mike isn’t the only film though to depict steamy dance routines on screen. Films like the Magic Mike franchise, exploring the life of exotic dancerson and off stage, date back to the 1960s and are continuing to be made and flourishing in pop culture.
