We were joiend on the Popternative show by Vanessa Morgan (Riverdale, Margaux) and Giacomo Gianniotti (Grey’s Anatomy, Reign) who star in the new crime-solving procedural series Wild Cards.
Created by Michael Konyves (Bad Blood, Barney’s Version), the series premiered January 10th on CBC and CBC Gem.
Wild Cards synopsis: “Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), a demoted detective, has unfortunately spent the last year on the maritime unit, while Max (Vanessa Morgan) has been living a transient life elaborately scamming everyone she meets. But when Max gets arrested and ends up helping Ellis solve a local crime, the two are offered the opportunity to redeem themselves, with Ellis going back to detective and Max staying out of jail. The catch? They have to work together, with each using their unique skills to solve crimes.”
In our interview, Giacomo discusses first reading the script and thinking about the audience: “When I read it there was a lot of light and levity and fun to it. We got to root for these really cool heroes that complimented each other in very interesting ways but they were very different characters. I thought the mysteries each week were very intelligently constructed and fun for the audience and viewer.”
Vanessa talks about new acting experiences she gained from set: “It was like the Olympics of acting I like to say on the set of Wild Cards. You’re in every scene, every day. I had to learn how to manage my time between having a son and also trying to prep for your whole week. It was a whole new learning experience. Before, on Riverdale, I would have time to prep, you’re not in every scene every day. So the time management and memorizing and amount of dialogue [was] a whole new learning experience for me which I’m so grateful for.”

A new episode of Wild Cards airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m on CBC and can be streamed on CBC Gem in Canada. Wild Cards will premiere on The CW in the U.S. on January 17th.
