Netflix today dropped the official trailer for the rom-com Voicemails for Isabelle, starring Zoey Deutch (Nouvelle Vague, Not Okay) and Nick Robinson (Damsel, Maid). Written and directed by Leah McKendrick (Scrambled), Voicemails for Isabelle will premiere June 19 on the streaming platform.
Voicemails for Isabelle follows Jill (Deutch), a grieving woman trying to navigate life after the loss of her sister. To stay connected to her, Jill leaves a series voicemails recounting her messy adventures and emotional struggles. But when her late sister’s phone number is unknowingly reassigned, the deeply personal messages start reaching an unsuspecting real estate agent in Austin (Robinson), leading to an unexpected and hilarious connection between two strangers. Netflix describes the new flick as a “refreshing and reminiscent of cozy rom-com classics like You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle.”
Additional cast include McKendrick, Harry Shum Jr. (Grey’s Anatomy, Crazy Rich Asians), Lukas Gage (Companion, Smile 2), Ciara Bravo (Swiped, Cherry), Nick Offerman (Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Parks and Recreation), Megan Danso (Siren, The 100), Gil Bellows, (Patriot, Women of the Movement) Toby Sandeman (Running Point, Power Book III: Raising Kanan), and Spencer Lord (The Last of Us, Heartland).
“Voicemails cannot be edited or rewritten. They’re usually messy, awkward, inarticulate — sometimes confessional. Like a stream of consciousness, they always go a little off the rails,” writer-director Leah McKendrick tells Tudum.
