Viewers Are Obsessed With this Culinary Drama Series — and no, it’s not The Bear
Imagine if Bridgerton and The Bear had a child — that child would be the new French-language Apple TV+ series, Carême. However, there is one aspect to this series that Bridgerton and The Bear don’t have — Carême is based on historical events and real people.
The culinary drama series, which premiered on April 30, and had its season one finale on June 11, tells the true story of the world’s first celebrity chef, Antonin Carême, played by Benjamin Voisin (Summer of 85, Lost Illusions). Carême is often referred to as the father of French haute cuisine because he took French cooking to a new level. It also stars Jérémie Renier (My Way, In Bruges), Lyna Khoudri (Papicha, The French Dispatch), and Alice Da Luz (Dancing the Twist in Bamako, Hanami).

With a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, the series has audiences loving the combination of genres along with the cinematography and set decor.
One viewer’s review says: “Love it … provocative, political, and based on maybe the first of the great chefs all set in napoleonic France. Beautiful sets, buildings in Paris. What’s not to like!” and another stating, “The attention to period detail is outstanding. Each episode I feel transported to a different world. Wonderful series!!“
Set in Paris in the early 19th century, the series follows Carême as he rose from humble beginnings in Paris to the height of culinary stardom in Napoleon’s Europe. While he dreams only of becoming the most famous chef in the world, his talent and ambitions attract the attention of renowned and powerful politicians, who use him as a spy for France — yes you read that right. Carême blends culinary art with drama, history and politics, and of course, romance.
Speaking of romance, the chemistry between the two leads is off the charts. Check out a clip below.
Fans now have to wait to see if there will be a second season.
Carême is streaming on Apple TV+.
