We recently had the opportunity to chat with actor Travis Van Winkle on the Popternative show. Travis has starred in films such as Accepted (2006), Transformers (2007) and Friday the 13th (2009). Most recently, he joined the cast of Netflix‘s hit series, You, for the third season which dropped on October 15, 2021. Travis portrays Cary Conrad who invites Joe (Penn Badgley) to join his circle of friends.
You Season 3
In season 3, Joe and Love, now married and raising their baby, have moved to the balmy Northern California enclave of Madre Linda, where they’re surrounded by privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers, and Insta-famous biohackers. Joe is committed to his new role as a husband and dad but fears Love’s lethal impulsiveness.
In our interview, we discuss You on Netflix, what it was like playing Cary, as well as his time filming Accepted, Transformers, and Friday the 13th. We asked Travis what it was like joining a series on Netflix that already has an established fan base:
The mindset is all in. All in, beacause there’s a fan base built in, the audience was just hungry for the next season. For me, my mindset was put everything I can into this role. […] My approach was ‘I’m not gonna coast with this role. I’m gonna invest everything I can and hit this from every angle’ because it’s going to be seen by a lot of people.
