We had the pleasure of speaking with O’Shea Jackson Jr. about Swagger which is dropping on AppleTV+ on October 29th, 2021.
Inspired by Kevin Durant’s experiences, Swagger explores the world of youth basketball, and the players, their families and coaches who walk the fine line between dreams and ambition, and opportunism and corruption. Off the court, the show reveals what it’s like to grow up in America.
The new series is led by an ensemble cast of stars including O’Shea, Isaiah Hill, Shanelle Azoroh, Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis, Caleel Harris, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Tessa Ferrer, Tristan Mack Wilds and Jason Rivera.
Oshea talks about the fact that although basketball seems to come off as a focal point in Swagger, it’s a show about way more than just the game:
Kind of the same elements that I had with Straight Outta Compton. Yes, the music, and in basketball, it might get you to watch but it’s kind of like the icing on the cake like yeah, the icing might be beautiful and the design is looks great, but if your cake isn’t good, you know that’s a piece of garbage, but you need that that icing to sell the products.
