
Netflix today revealed the official trailer for the upcoming anime series, Blue Eye Samurai, set to premiere November 3rd on the streaming platform. The limited series is is created by wife and husband team Amber Noizumi and Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), who also serve as executive producers and writers. Netflix describes the series as one which “immerses the viewer in a world of vivid adult animation with a live-action edge.”
Set in Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword who lives a life in disguise seeking the deliverance of revenge.
The voice cast also includes Maya Erskine (PEN15), George Takei (Star Trek), Masi Oka (Hawaii Five-0), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat), Brenda Song (Amphibia), Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Kenneth Branagh (A Haunting in Venice), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Ming-Na Wen (The Book of Boba Fett), Harry Shum Jr. (Crazy Rich Asians), and Mark Dacascos (Warrior).
“It’s an Edo-period tale of revenge — Kill Bill meets Yentl,” co-creator Noizumi told Tudum. “We would love this to cross over into every interest — that if you like The Witcher, if you like animation, if you like Game of Thrones, if you like The Crown, if you like historical drama, if you like Shakespeare in Love, if you like Tarantino movies, there’s something in Blue Eye Samurai for you,” said co-creator Green.
