The upcoming true crime documentary, Jailbreak: Love on the Run, will premiere on Netflix on September 25th. The official trailer is now here giving true crime fans a preview of the wild events that took place in 2022. The doc tells the recent story of Casey White and Vicky White: a romance between an inmate and an officer of the law which led to a manhunt.
Vicky White was the assistant director of operations for 17 years at the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Florence, Alabama, and was well liked and respected by all. “She treated everybody like they were somebody,” says former Lauderdale County Detention Center resident Tyler Purser in the documentary. “She was like [the] mother that everybody in there never had growing up.”
In 2020, Casey White (no relation) was transferred to the Lauderdale County Detention Center and convicted on a felony charge serving a 75-year prison sentence for of violent crimes, and was awaiting trial for a recently confessed murder.
On April 29, 2022, after Vicky’s retirement party, she informed her colleagues she was taking Casey to the Florence courthouse for a mental health evaluation…and the two never returned.
According to Tudum, in the documentary, “Vicky White’s friends and former colleagues try to figure out just how an incarcerated person and one of the employees in the detention center where he was being held managed to fall in love and plan a prison break.”
