Netflix today dropped the official trailer for Sirens (see below), a female-driven, a dark comedy limited series created by Emmy-nominated writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (Maid). The 5-episode series will premiere on May 22.
Sirens stars Julianne Moore (May December), Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus), Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Kevin Bacon (The Bondsman), Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit), Felix Solis (Ozark), Josh Segarra (Scream VI), Trevor Salter (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Britne Oldford (Dead Ringers), Lauren Weedman (Hacks), and Jenn Lyon (Claws).
Sirens is the first series from Smith Metzler’s creative partnership with Netflix and is based on her play ElemenoPea, which she wrote at The Juilliard School. 2021’s acclaimed limited series Maid was Metzler’s first project with Netflix.
The logline reads, “Devon thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell. Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention, but she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells’ lavish beach estate, Sirens is an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class.”
“We watch Simone run desperately away from who she is and who she really wants to be seen as. Devon becomes embarrassed. Simone starts calling out all of Devon’s bad habits, bad relationships, and the way that she mistreats herself,” Fahy tells Tudum. She also adds, “Sirens is really a show about relationships and the way people desperately try to outrun their past.”
