Netflix today revealed the official trailer (below) and new photos for the upcoming film Unfrosted, starring comedian Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut. Seinfeld co-wrote the film along with Spike Feresten and Andy Robin (Seinfeld, Bee Movie), and Barry Marder (Bee Movie, Night Stand).
Unfrosted will stream on Netflix May 3rd, 2024.
The star-studded cast includes Melissa McCarthy (The Little Mermaid, Bridesmaids), Jim Gaffigan (Full Circle, Luca), Hugh Grant (Wonka, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Amy Schumer (Life & Beth, I Feel Pretty), Max Greenfield (The Neighborhood, New Girl), Christian Slater (Mr. Robot, Dr. Death), Bill Burr (Old Dads, F Is for Family), Dan Levy (Good Grief, Schitt’s Creek), James Marsden (Jury Duty, Dead to Me), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock, Wreck-It Ralph), Thomas Lennon (Rock, Paper, Scissors, Reno 911), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live, Mr. Mayor), Adrian Martinez (Renfield, Focus), Sarah Cooper (Summering, Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine), Cedric The Entertainer (Barbershop, The Neighborhood), and Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Satruday Night Live).
“It’s a huge cast. I don’t know how it got so big. I remember that we had nobody for a long time. And then Hugh Grant called and said he heard about the movie, and he wanted to be Tony the Tiger. Then, the next thing I knew, everybody was in it, and it was incredible,” Seinfeld tells Tudum.
The Unfrosted synopsis reads: “Battle Creek, Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A wildly imaginative tale of ambition, betrayal, and menacing milkmen – sweetened with artificial ingredients – UNFROSTED stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial film debut. It features a supporting cast of comedy greats including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Sarah Cooper, Bill Burr, and many more.”
If you’re wondering if the film is based on a true story, Seinfeld tells Tudum, “This really did happen in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post were located, and they did compete to come up with this product. But the rest of it is complete lunacy. We’re going to tell you a story, but if we want to do something funny that doesn’t make any sense, we’re going to do that too.”
