We were joined on the Popternative show by Bianca Melchior who plays a Young Fern Landry in Season 4 of time travel drama, The Way Home. The Hallmark drama follows three fierce women, Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh), her teenage daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow), and Kat’s mother, Del (Andie MacDowell). Decades earlier, a series of devastating events drove Kat away from her small Canadian hometown, leaving a rift between her and Del that never fully healed. At a turning point in her life, Kat returns to the family farm with Alice, hoping for a fresh start.
Everything changes when Kat and Alice unexpectedly discover they can travel between the past and present. As they begin to uncover long-buried secrets tied to their family’s history, they become determined to understand, and possibly alter, the tragedies that shaped their lives. Along the way, Kat’s longtime friend Elliot (Evan Williams) plays a key role across both timelines, helping to guide them as they navigate the emotional and unexpected consequences of their journey.
In the fourth season, which premiered on Aprl 19, we are introduced to a younger version of Grandma Fern Landry as Kat travels to 1925 in search for answers about Elliot’s missing mother, Tessa. While there, Young Fern shows Kat what Port Haven was like in the 1920s.
Now that viewers have finally met Young Fern, Melchior is relieved to see audiences react to the character. “I’m so in love with what we created as a team. I’m so in love with Fern. It’s something that I’ve held close to my heart through this [waiting] phase. And now that it’s out in the world, it’s nice to be able to savor it alongside audiences.”
“It was it was just so special to keep unfolding Fern’s story because I fell in love with her from the moment [I read] the audition sides. I was just so excited to know where she was heading in life and it was such a gift to play her and bring her story to life,” she adds.

A new episode of The Way Home airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on Hallmark Channel and streams the next day on Hallmark+. The series finale airs on June 21.
